FashionPlaytes is a great new service which allows young girls to design their own clothes using a fun video-game like design wizard, and then actually get their design made and shipped to them as brand-new outfits that they've designed! It's a really fun and creative activity for girls, and they simply love the clothes they get. Something about designing their own clothing gives them an extra special feeling about wearing their clothes.
What really surprised me was the quality of the clothing that FashionPlaytes created based on our daughter's design and sent back to us. Their clothing is high-quality and well-crafted, better than you'll get even at stores likes Gap Kids. The founder of FashionPlaytes, Sarah McIlroy (she's interviewed in the video below), is obsessed with quality and she ensures that her clothing manufacturing is of the highest quality.
The online design tool is simple and easy for any child to use - it has a clean an uncluttered look. It can take just a few minutes or even a few hours (depending on how much customizing she wants to do!) to design an article of clothing on FashionPlaytes. Girls can choose from a variety of base clothing pieces:
And then they can completely customize it using on online sketchbook-type tool which lets you choose colors, designs, and patterns exactly as desired.
Clothing look and quality
The clothing from FashionPlaytes is really outstanding. Quality workmanship and fabrics, better than you get in even many nicer kids clothing stores. They've really focused on good quality and getting the resulting designs to look just like they do in the design tool. Even the colors, which can often appear different on different people's computer screens, looked very close to the pictures on the website - they must have done some research to match colors well. I was impressed with the quality - this was not just a fun site that returns cheap clothes, the clothes are usable and wearable and durable.
How much does it cost?
FashionPlaytes is very reasonable. Most outfits cost between $10 - $35. A terry shirt can be fully designed and delivered for under $10. This seems very reasonable for custom-designed clothing, especially considering the high quality.
